30 Easy 30-Minute Meals for Busy Weeknights

Some nights, 30 minutes is about all I have to get dinner on the table. That’s when I want a recipe that’s actually quick, uses familiar ingredients and doesn’t leave me with a sink full of dishes afterward.

These easy 30 minute meals are made for those nights. You’ll find quick chicken dinners, pasta, beef, tacos and other family-friendly recipes that can get you from What am I making for dinner? to everyone eating in about half an hour.

I’ve also added some of our favorite Our Home Made Easy recipes to the list, so there are plenty of options for those busy nights when dinner needs to happen fast.

Dinner on the Table in 30 Minutes

  • USE THE SHORTCUT – Rotisserie chicken, frozen vegetables, jarred sauces, and other prepared ingredients can turn a hectic night into an easy dinner.
  • PICK SIMPLE SIDES – Bagged salad, microwave rice, frozen vegetables or fruit are completely acceptable ways to finish dinner.
  • SAVE A FEW FAVORITES – Keep two or three reliable 30-minute meals in your regular rotation so you don’t have to decide from scratch every week.

How I Keep Quick Dinners Affordable

The goal isn’t to make the cheapest dinner possible. It’s to save where it’s easy so I have room in the grocery budget for the ingredients that actually make dinner better.

Quick dinners don’t have to mean expensive convenience foods. One of the easiest ways I keep our grocery budget under control is by shopping the weekly sales and building some of our dinners around what’s on promotion.

We also buy staples like chicken and ground beef in bulk from Costco or Sam’s Club and freeze them in meal-sized portions. That way, I can pull out exactly what I need instead of buying meat at full price every time.

And I’m completely fine swapping ingredients when it makes sense. If a recipe calls for a more expensive cut of meat, I’ll often use a less expensive option that’s on sale instead.

How I Actually Keep Dinner Under 30 Minutes

A 30-minute recipe can easily turn into a 45-minute dinner if you’re chopping vegetables, thawing meat, and making three side dishes at once. When I need dinner to truly stay around 30 minutes, I keep the rest of the meal simple.

I use shortcuts like rotisserie chicken, pre-cut vegetables, frozen rice, bagged salad and jarred sauces when they make sense. I also choose recipes that don’t require a lot of separate prep. The goal isn’t to make every part of dinner from scratch. It’s to get a good dinner on the table without making the evening harder than it needs to be.
