What is a Fall Charcuterie Board?

A fall charcuterie board is a seasonal spin on the classic meat and cheese platter, styled with autumnal colors, fun shapes & textures, and a mix of sweet and savory flavors that feel right at home during this time of year. Think of it as a no-cook, crowd-pleasing appetizer that blends the warm tones of cheddar, spiced nuts, crisp apples, fig jam, and soft cheeses. These boards are so loved at parties because they offer something for everyone—whether you’re a grazer, a cheese lover, or just there for the pumpkin-shaped crackers.

They’re beautiful to look at, easy to customize, and come together in minutes, making them perfect for busy hosts who still want to make a great impression.

How To Make a Fall Charcuterie Board

This autumn charcuterie board is a great idea for celebrating Halloween parties and Thanksgiving events, without having to prepare a full meal. It’s my go-to fall snack board when I want something that looks like it took effort, but didn’t.

Whether you’re grabbing favorites from your local grocery store or making your own whipped ricotta dip, the goal is a board full of fall flavors that’s easy to build and fun to share.

  • Prepare Your Board. Start with a wooden board, serving tray, or even a parchment-lined baking sheet. No need for anything fancy—just something flat and clean. Pull out small spoons, cheese knives, and small bowls. Set them aside.
  • Place the Cheese and Dips. Add your small bowls first: one with fig jam, one with sweet jelly, and one with the whipped ricotta dip. If you want to make a pumpkin-shaped cutout in your Brie, now is the time to do so. Place the brie wheel next, then space everything out to give each item room to shine. • Arrange the Meats. Fold salami into rosettes and create ribbons of soppressata. Roll up your turkey or ham slices. Group the meats near the dips and cheeses to encourage easy pairing. Curious about folding meats? I love this YouTube video for tips & tricks!
  • Add the Crackers and Cubed Cheese. Stack crackers in small groups in different areas of the board. Stack cheddar cubes near the brie and ricotta for visual balance and color.
  • Layer in Fruit and Pickles. Fan out your apple slices and tuck pickles or olives into open spaces. They add pop, texture, and a little zing to the bites.
  • Fill in the Gaps. Use mixed nuts, pumpkin cookies, or even mini pretzels to fill open spots. This adds color and makes your board look abundant.
  • Garnish and Serve. Top with rosemary or thyme sprigs. Set cheese cutting knives next to your brie, Boursin, or cheese logs.  Add small spoons to your dips, jellies, and a honey dipper to your honey bowl. Serve immediately or refrigerate, uncovered, until your guests arrive.

Tips & Tricks

  • Let cheeses sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes before serving—this improves flavor and texture.
  • Keep your apples fresh by tossing them in lemon water before arranging.
  • Use small bowls to contain wet ingredients like jams, ricotta, or honey.
  • Don’t overthink the layout. Start with big items, fill in with small ones, and keep everything close together for a full look. Fill in your empty space with nuts, chocolates, and crackers at the end!
  • Shop Trader Joe’s or your local grocery store for seasonal produce and fun extras without the extra cost.

Fall Add-Ins and Seasonal Ideas

If you want to bring more “Fall” to the board, try:

  • Fall Sweets: Candy corn, soft molasses cookies, chocolate-covered pretzels, or mini pumpkin whoopie pies. Trafer Joe’s is a great place to find on-season treats!
  • Orange Cheeses: Mimolette, Red Leicester, or Colby Jack add a pretty orange fall color.
  • Seasonal Fruits: Red grapes, dried apricots, or even pomegranates for texture and sweetness.
  • Soft Cheeses: Goat cheese logs or mini wheels for extra creamy bites. Bonus: You just cut the logs ahead of time, and they’re ready to serve!
  • Hard Cheeses: Try a sharp aged cheddar or wedge of blue cheese for color contrast.

  • 3 Ounces Prosciutto, folded (optional)

Fruits & Veggies

  • Sliced Apples and/or Pears (pre-soak in lemon juice to avoid browning)
  • Pickles
  • Olives

Crackers & Bread

  • Round Buttery Crackers
  • Wheat or Herb-Flavored Crackers
  • French Baguette, sliced

Spreads & Extras

  • Honey

Snacks & Treats

  • Sweet Treats (Pumpkin Cookies, Maple Cookies, Chocolate Nuggets, or other sweet treat)
  • Sweet and Salty Extras like Pretzels or Trail Mix (optional)

Garnish

  • Small Pumpkin Gourds
  • Fresh Rosemary or Thyme Sprigs (optional)

Instructions

    1. Prepare Your Board. Start with a large wooden board, serving tray, or a parchment-lined sheet pan for easy cleanup. Using a pumpkin or fall-themed cookie cutter, press down on top of the brie wheel. Cut along the cutout with a small, sharp knife. Lightly remove the white cheese rind from inside the cutout. Top the cutout opening with fruit jelly. This does not need to be precise since the jelly will cover and level out the empty areas.
    2. Place the Dips & Cheese. Add the whipped ricotta dip, brie wheel (topped with jelly), and jams in small bowls spaced out on the board.
    3. Arrange the Meats. Fold salami and soppressata into loose rosettes or ribbons. Roll deli turkey or ham slices. Cluster meats around dips.
    4. Add Cheese & Crunch. Pile cubed cheddar cheese near dips or pickles. Stack crackers in small groups across the board for visual balance. If you run out of space, serve crackers and bread on a separate plate or bowl alongside the charcuterie board.
    5. Layer in Fruit & Pickles. Fan out the apple slices and place bowls of olives and pickles into the open spaces.
    6. Fill in the Gaps. Add handfuls of mixed nuts, sweet pumpkin cookies, or your favorite fall snack to complete the look.
    7. Garnish & Serve. Optional: Add fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs. Serve immediately or cover and chill until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • Make It Ahead: You can prep most of the items (like folding meats, slicing apples, and prepping dips) a few hours in advance. Just cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving. Add crackers and cookies before serving.
  • Keep Apples Fresh: To prevent apple slices from browning, toss them lightly in a mixture of lemon juice and water before adding them to the board.
  • Board Size Tip: If you're serving a small group, scale down the ingredients and use a large dinner plate or round serving tray instead of a board.
  • Budget-Friendly Swap: Use store-brand crackers, cube your own block of cheese, or opt for a specialty jam you already have.
  • Customize for Kids: Add mini pretzels, popcorn, or seasonal cookies to make the board more kid-friendly.
  • Serving Tip: Let the brie sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes before serving so it’s perfectly soft and spreadable.
  • Add Texture & Color: Mix crunchy elements (such as crackers and nuts) with creamy ones (like ricotta and brie), and use a mix of warm autumn colors—like oranges, golds, and reds—for a festive look.
