What is Slow Cooker Apple Crisp?

This recipe is a twist on traditional oven-baked apple crisp. Instead of baking it in the oven, toss the apple mixture and crisp topping into your slow cooker. Over two hours, the apples soften and the topping becomes golden and rich—just the way we like it. This version is ideal for busy families who still want a homemade dessert without babysitting the oven.

Whether you’re using freshly picked apples from the orchard or ones from your latest grocery store run, this crockpot apple crisp is a great way to turn them into something special.

How To Make Slow Cooker Apple Crisp

  • Make the Apple Mixture: Peel and slice your apples, then toss them in a large bowl with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well and pour evenly into the bottom of a  6-quart slow cooker.
  • Mix the Crisp Topping: In a second large bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, and all-purpose flour. Add diced butter and cut it into the mixture using a pastry cutter or two forks until it forms coarse crumbs.
  • Add the Topping: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the top of the apples.
  • Cook: Cover and cook on high for 2 hours. After 2 hours, switch the setting to warm and remove the lid. Let the apple crisp cool for 30 minutes to thicken before serving.

Crock Pot Apple Crisp Tips & Tricks

  • Use a mix of apples: Combine Honeycrisp with Granny Smith or Pink Lady for a balance of sweet and tart.
  • No pastry cutter? Use clean hands or two forks to blend in the butter.
  • Storing leftovers: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for a feel good treat.
  • Crispier topping: Crack the lid slightly during the last 15 minutes to let some moisture escape and the topping firm up.
