Master Bedroom Decor Plan

Sharing is caring!

One area of our home that needs some attention is our master bedroom. Like the rest of the house it was painted in a flat commerical white color. And this room desperately needs LOTS of improvement! While I am still working on the overall design ( and budget!), here are a few ideas I am working on right now. I hope you don’t mind if I share what I am loving for the master bedroom.

The Before

To get an idea of where we are starting from in this design project, here is the BEFORE photo….

I am sorry that I do not have better images. Aside from light carpeting and 2 more coats of flat Commercial White colored paint, this is what the room looked like at move in! Total blank space, right? It’s almost overwhelming to have this much emptiness.

Not very inspiring, is it? The room is about 17′ square and has cathedral ceilings that are 14′ tall. My goal is to make it feel more comforting than voluminous. I hope that’s a ‘thing.’ Is that a ‘thing?’ 🙂

What is inspiring this room!

The Wall Color

It’s like you don’t know where to start. We decided to take a leap and choose the paint color, first. All else will follow, and hopefully coordinate, with the whole house color palette. One way that we are bringing the room ‘in’ is to paint it a deep color. When we had our awesome paint consultation, we decided on Sherwin-Williams color in Privilege Green.

The Accent Wall Treatment

I have high expectations that we will eventually pull of this wall moulding treatment! I fell in love with it a few years ago on Pinterest and have been super excited to do it on the wall behind our bed! Now I need to convince Jordan that it needs to be done.

The DIY Shelving

Great ideas for a rustic transitional master bedroom. Lots of white and wood details.I would like to build floating shelves above one of our white dressers. I am thinking we will stain it in a light wood color to really contrast with the green wall color. Once I plan the dimensions and the amount of shelving needed, I will use Shanty 2 Chic’s Floating Shelf Design. It looks DIY friendly and right up our alley!

The Night Stands

I’m in love with the color of these One Kings Lane night stands. The size and style are yelling, “Buy us, Brittany!” However, it wouldn’t be financially responsible to spend so much money one them. Sigh… what is there to do then? DIY it! I found these great nightstands ( & free plans!) over at the Rogue Engineer. We’ll add a set of two to the honey do-list to this room’s punchlist!

The Faux Fireplace

This sounds a little over the top, right? But we have this wall space between the bathroom and the closet that is begging to be a focal point. You can see part of the wall in the before picture above. My thoughts? How about making a faux fireplace? What could be cooler than making a larger plain builder’s grade home more custom than something like that? Project # 76 on Jordan’s honey do list 🙂 I’ve fallen head over heels for the one Lauren designed (& built!) over at Bless’er House. It’s pretty fabulous!

I will continue to post updates to this post as we work on the bedroom. Unfortunately, it’s always been a low priority since we’ve moved in and I’m hoping that we can start to spark some majahhh design very soon!

    1. Thank you! I like the accent wall, too. I think it will give it a little personality! PS. We haven’t seen any kitchen updates lately. Post some soon? -Brittany
